Learn How We Help Veterans

Legacy Vans is committed to helping veterans understand and access the benefits available to support mobility, independence, and everyday life. Our team works alongside veterans and their families to explain eligibility, guide next steps, and connect available programs to real-world mobility solutions that fit individual needs.

Eligible veterans may qualify for an automobile allowance grant that can be applied toward the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible or adaptive vehicle. Currently, qualifying veterans can receive up to $19,817, which is paid directly to the vehicle seller once approved by the VA.

This grant helps reduce the financial burden of purchasing an accessible vehicle and can be combined with adaptive equipment benefits depending on eligibility and individual mobility requirements.

Advocacy and Support for Disabled American Veterans

Building better lives for disabled American veterans and their families through advocacy, assistance, and long-term support.

Disabled American Veterans (DAV) provides critical services that help veterans access the benefits, healthcare, and resources they’ve earned through service. Their work focuses on empowering veterans and their families with guidance, representation, and programs designed to improve quality of life and long-term independence.

Specialized Support for Veterans With Spinal Cord Injuries

Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) is a congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1946, dedicated to supporting veterans who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction. PVA has developed deep expertise in addressing the complex medical, mobility, and accessibility needs unique to these veterans.

Through advocacy, education, and direct assistance, PVA helps veterans access critical benefits, healthcare services, and mobility resources that promote independence and improve quality of life. Their work ensures veterans with spinal cord injuries receive the long-term support and representation they deserve.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is committed to delivering high-quality healthcare, essential benefits, and dependable support to those who have served our country. Through medical services, disability compensation, education assistance, and housing programs, the VA works to ensure veterans receive the care, respect, and resources they have earned through their service.

VA Health Benefits Enrollment

The VA Health Benefits Enrollment program allows eligible veterans to apply for comprehensive healthcare services through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. By completing the VA enrollment process, veterans can gain access to medical care, preventive services, mental health support, and specialized treatment programs designed to support long-term health, independence, and overall well-being.

VA Spina Bifida Benefits

The VA Spina Bifida Benefits program provides financial assistance, healthcare coverage, and vocational training to the children of Vietnam veterans diagnosed with spina bifida. These benefits are designed to support long-term medical needs, daily care, and opportunities for education and independence.

Through VA-financed healthcare services and monetary allowances, eligible families can access critical support that helps improve quality of life and reduce the financial burden associated with ongoing medical care.

Non-Service-Connected Van Modification Benefits

Veterans who do not qualify for the Automobile Adaptive Equipment Program may still be eligible for non-service-connected van modifications designed to improve accessibility and ease of use. This program focuses on medical-related mobility equipment that helps veterans safely enter and exit a vehicle.

Eligible equipment may include items such as wheelchair lifts, ramps, and other non-operational accessibility solutions classified as medical devices. While these modifications do not assist with driving functions, they play a critical role in supporting daily transportation needs and maintaining independence.

VA Applications and Required Forms

Obtaining, completing, and submitting the appropriate VA forms is an essential first step in securing a wheelchair-accessible vehicle through VA programs. These applications help determine eligibility for automobile allowances and adaptive equipment benefits and ensure requests are properly reviewed by the VA.
Veterans typically begin the process by completing VA Form 21-4502, which applies to the automobile allowance and adaptive equipment benefits, along with VA Form 10-1394, which is used to request adaptive equipment approval. Legacy Vans encourages veterans to review these forms carefully and consult the VA for guidance throughout the application process.
